Dr Gary Turnbull BVSc (Hons)

Veterinary Surgeon

Gary graduated from the University of Sydney, Bachelor of Veterinary Science course  with 1st Class Honours in 1995. He joined the East Port Veterinary Hospital in 1998 after practicing for three years in a suburban Sydney companion animal clinic. Gary and his wife Priscilla took ownership of the practice in February 2000 and he has been the superintendent of the hospital since that time. His area of particular interest is Diagnostic Imaging and continues ongoing study in this discipline. 


 
 

Priscilla Turnbull

Veterinary Surgeon

Priscilla graduated from the University of Sydney in 1995 obtaining a Bachelor of Veterinary Science with first class honours. She then worked in small animal practice in Sydney before moving to Port Macquarie in 1998.


Apart from taking a few years out to become a mum in 2001 and 2004, she has been dedicated to caring for the pets of Port Macquarie, including her own three Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and three Burmese cats. Her special interest areas include theriogenology  and paediatrics.


 
 

Amy Lee BVSc (Hons)

Veterinary Surgeon

Amy graduated from the University Of Sydney in 2000, with First Class Honours. She has a special interest in small animal medicine , birds, pocket pets and reptiles as well as animal behaviour. Amy also has a passion for wildlife, having been President of Sydney University Wildlife Society and conducting a wildlife project at Munda Wanga Environmental Park in Zambia, Africa in 2002. When not playing with fluffy critters at the clinic, Amy can be found at he beach swimming, practicing yoga or curled up with her two cats (Sassy and Jack) reading a good book. She is enrolled in a Sydney University Post Graduate Foundation course in Canine and Feline Internal Medicine for 2008.

 

 


 
 

Rebecca Tucker BVSc (Hons)

Veterinary Surgeon

Bec graduated from the University of Sydney in 2007, making her the newest addition to the veterinary team at East Port. She grew up in Coffs Harbour and wished to return to the Mid-North Coast following the completion of her studies.
Bec has a special interest in small mammals including rabbits, ferrets and guinea pigs. She has pursued additional studies in the area of small mammal medicine and surgery over the course of her veterinary degree and will continue to do so in the future.

In her spare time, Bec can be found spending quality time with her pet rabbit “Scout”, enjoying the local beaches, waterskiing or painting.


 
 

Dr Carole Comerford BSc BVSc

Veterinarian

After completing her Bachelor of Biological Sciences with honours in 1990 from the University of Leicester IK, Carole made the move to Sydney to continue her studies and graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science in 1995.

Once graduated she moved back to the UK to work in a mixed practice for a few years followed by 5 years in a small animal hospital on the south coast of England.

The decision to move back to warmer climates was not difficult and found Carole working in a mixed practice in Gloucester NSW. Finally realizing that the coast was calling she had found her place at East Port Veterinary Hospital in October 2008.

Carole has a special interest in anaesthesia and analgesia in small animals.


 
 

Dr Vanessa Aird

Veterinary Surgeon BVMS MRCVS

Vanessa graduated from the University of Glasgow, UK, in 1994. She then spent three years working in mixed practice in West Wales. After a year travelling and working in Australia she returned to the UK an has spent the last ten years in a small animal hospital in Oxford.

With two young children to entertain she decided that the Australian beach was the place to be so she has returned to Australia with her family.

In her spare time Vanessa enjoys spending time at the beach and pool. Vanessa’s special interests are small animal medicine and cardiac ultrasound

 
  Stacey Theofanou
Veterinary Nurse

Stacey joined the East Port Veterinary Hospital team in 1999 as part of a senior school work experience program. She then commenced full time employment with the practice whilst studying her Certificate II in Animal Studies and Certificate III in Veterinary Nursing at TAFE. In 2003 and 2006 Stacey became the proud mother of her beautiful daughters, Piper and Ava. In 2007, Stacey married Marcus, her partner of 7 years. Stacey is continuing her studies with the Animal Industries Resource Centre based in Queensland and from 2008 has taken on a new role within the hospital of Practice Coordinator and Senior Veterinary Nurse.


 
  Rebecca Spring
Veterinary Nurse

Rebecca is photographed with her pride and joy “Maxy”. She first joined the practice in 2002 via a senior school work experience program. Rebecca worked for the hospital in an animal attendant position for 12 months before completing her TAFE Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing program by correspondence in 2004. She has been employed as a full time Veterinary Nurse at East Port  since that time.


 
 

Summer-Brooke Earles

Veterinary Nurse

Summer joined the hospital in 2000 as a volunteer worker whilst studying Certificate II Animal Studies at TAFE. She then progressed from casual to full time employment whilst completing her Veterinary Nursing Certificates.   
Summer is taking a well earned break from the hospital after giving birth to her son “Kane” in 2007, however hopes to be back looking after the pets of Port Macquarie very soon.

Both of Summer’s pets, “Sky” a lively Stafford Bull Terrier cross and “Cindy” a posh Domestic Medium Hair Cat were rescued by the local branch of the RSPCA.

In her spare time, Summer indulges her artistic talents which includes the beautiful mosaic of the hospital logo which can be viewed at reception.


 
 

Kate Bisco

Veterinary Nurse

Kate has been apart of the East Port Veterinary Hospital team since 2004 where she began her studies in animal attending and progressed to complete her veterinary nursing in 2007. She hopes to continue studying in her areas of interests of animal massage. 

In her spare time Kate enjoys keeping fit through her martial arts training and active family life with her husband, two children , two dogs and cat.


 
  Annette Thomson
Receptionist

Annie’s career background had been in the hospitality industry before becoming a veterinary receptionist in March 2003. She had been a long term client of the practice watching the hospital grow from a staff of two to its present day staff of fourteen. She has had a lifelong love of animals which is reflected in her approach to our patients and their owners. Annie is the proud owner of  “Fatboy”, “Munch”  and “Pota”, all three finding her through the local RSPCA branch.


 
 

Wilhelmina Ridding

Veterinary Receptionist

Wilhelmina joined our team at East Port Veterinary Hospital in February 2008 in the role of Veterinary Receptionist.
As long time resident of Port Macquarie, Wilhelmina’s career focused on client service and administration with qualifications in Accounting and Marketing. With a love for all animals she brings to our hospital an abundance of compassion combined with great client service skills. Having been involved with the RSPCA as a volunteer and after completing an Animal Attendance course, Wilhelmina describes working at East Port as her “dream job”.

In her spare time Wilhelmina enjoys family life with her husband and son combined with swimming, yoga and her loveable pets “Whiskas” and “Jessy”.


 
 

Emma Crockett

Veterinary Nurse

Emma joined the team at East Port in June 2008 as a full time veterinary nurse. She completed Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing during 2004 in her home town of Tamworth. Emma relocated to Port Macquarie to follow her passion and dedication for animals.

Being a rural girl, Emma enjoys listening to country music and playing tennis. Unfortunately, until fully settled, Emma’s menagerie has had to remain on her parent’s farm near Tamworth. They include; two dogs – Jack and Ernie, chalky the cat and her herd of four – Billy, Dan, Claire and Daisy.


 
 

Amie Burgess

Veterinary Nurse

Amie joined the East Port Veterinary team in September 2008 as an animal attendant after completing a course in animal studies and following 12 months voluntary work one day per week. She is currently studying to become a veterinary nurse through commencing Certificate 4 in Veterinary Nursing.

Pictured here with her dog Macey, Amie also has a cat named Cindy, a puppy named Bella and a rabbit named Dotti.

Amie enjoys camping, bushwalking, going to the beach, horse-riding and volunteering for the wildlife organisation, FAWNA.


 
 

Debbie Dawson

Animal Attendant

After working in the hospitality industry for 20 years, Debbie decided it was time for a change. She is now enrolled in Certificate 2 in Animal Studies and replaces Amie in the role of Animal Attendant. Debbie loves to take her two Dachshund crosses, Murphy and Maggie, to the beach where they surf the waves.


 
 

Eddie East Port

Staff Manager

Eddie the black cat joined us in 2005 as a poor lost soul with advanced tick paralysis. He was treated successfully and made a full recovery. Through a combination of charming good looks and outstanding personality, he made his way into all of our hearts and become a life-long part of our team. Eddie now happily resides at the hospital. He is most often found lounging over the reception desk “helping” Annie and Wilhelmina.
