Dr Gary Turnbull

Veterinary Surgeon BVSc (Hons)

Gary graduated from the University of Sydney, Bachelor of Veterinary Science course  with 1st Class Honours in 1995. He joined the East Port Veterinary Hospital in 1998 after practicing for three years in a suburban Sydney companion animal clinic. Gary and his wife Priscilla took ownership of the practice in February 2000 and he has been the superintendent of the hospital since that time. His area of particular interest is Diagnostic Imaging and continues ongoing study in this discipline. 


 
 

Dr Priscilla Turnbull

Veterinary Surgeon BVSc (Hons)

Priscilla graduated from the University of Sydney in 1995 obtaining a Bachelor of Veterinary Science with first class honours. She then worked in small animal practice in Sydney before moving to Port Macquarie in 1998.


Apart from taking a few years out to become a mum in 2001 and 2004, she has been dedicated to caring for the pets of Port Macquarie, including her own three Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and three Burmese cats. Her special interest areas include theriogenology  and paediatrics.


 

 
 

Dr Rebecca Tucker

Veterinary Surgeon BVSc (Hons)

Bec graduated from the University of Sydney in20047 obtaining a bachelor of Veterinary Science with first class honours.
Bec has a special interest in small mammals particularly rabbits. She has her very own spoilt house rabbit named “Scout” who demands much of her time and attention and who refuses to allow anyone else to join her furry family.
In her spare time Bec can be found enjoying the local beaches, jetskiing and waterskiing.


 

 
 

Dr Vanessa Aird

Veterinary Surgeon BVMS MRCVS

Vanessa graduated from the University of Glasgow, UK, in 1994. She then spent three years working in mixed practice in West Wales. After a year travelling and working in Australia she returned to the UK an has spent the last ten years in a small animal hospital in Oxford.

With two young children to entertain she decided that the Australian beach was the place to be so she has returned to Australia with her family.

In her spare time Vanessa enjoys spending time at the beach and pool. Vanessa’s special interests are small animal medicine and cardiac ultrasound

 
 

Dr Michaella Griffin

Veterinary Surgeon BVSc (Hons) Biomed Sc

Michaella graduated from the University of Queensland in 2009 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science with first class honours. She has also completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Griffith University. Michaella chose a career in Veterinary Science as she is passionate about animal health and welfare. Her interest areas include canine and feline nutrition, dermatology, and cardiology. She plans to continue her education in small animal medicine, as well as avian medicine over the coming years.

Michaella made the move to Port Macquarie to be closer to her family and to join the team at East Port. Michaella enjoys swimming and running, especially with her gorgeous retired greyhound ‘Collin’.


 
 

Dr Marie Borgesson

Veterinary Surgeon BVSc (Hons)

Marie graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science with honours in 2010. Marie has two cats, Capucine and Lili, who enjoy the Port Macquarie weather and nature as much as she does.

Marie's main interest is canine and feline medicine in which she continues to expand her knowledge. In her spare time she can be seen going to gym classes and reading, and if the weather allows it, taking walks along the beaches.


 
  Stacey Theofanou
Veterinary Nurse & Practice Co-ordinator

Stacey joined the East Port Veterinary Hospital team in 1999 as part of a senior school work experience program. She then commenced full time employment with the practice whilst studying her Certificate II in Animal Studies and Certificate III in Veterinary Nursing at TAFE. In 2003 and 2006 Stacey became the proud mother of her beautiful daughters, Piper and Ava. In 2007, Stacey married Marcus, her partner of 7 years. Stacey is continuing her studies with the Animal Industries Resource Centre based in Queensland and from 2008 has taken on a new role within the hospital of Practice Coordinator and Senior Veterinary Nurse.


 
  Rebecca Spring
Veterinary Nurse

Rebecca is photographed with her pride and joy “Maxy”. She first joined the practice in 2002 via a senior school work experience program. Rebecca worked for the hospital in an animal attendant position for 12 months before completing her TAFE Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing program by correspondence in 2004. She has been employed as a full time Veterinary Nurse at East Port  since that time.


 
 

Summer-Brooke Craig

Veterinary Nurse

Summer joined the hospital in 2000 as a volunteer worker whilst studying Certificate II Animal Studies at TAFE. She then progressed from casual to full time employment whilst completing her Veterinary Nursing Certificates.   
Summer is taking a well earned break from the hospital after giving birth to her son “Kane” in 2007, however hopes to be back looking after the pets of Port Macquarie very soon.

Both of Summer’s pets, “Sky” a lively Stafford Bull Terrier cross and “Cindy” a posh Domestic Medium Hair Cat were rescued by the local branch of the RSPCA.

In her spare time, Summer indulges her artistic talents which includes the beautiful mosaic of the hospital logo which can be viewed at reception.


 
 

Kate Bisco

Veterinary Nurse

Kate has been apart of the East Port Veterinary Hospital team since 2004 where she began her studies in animal attending and progressed to complete her veterinary nursing in 2007. She hopes to continue studying in her areas of interests of animal massage. 

In her spare time Kate enjoys keeping fit through her martial arts training and active family life with her husband, two children , two dogs and cat.


 
 

Leigh Carthew

Veterinary Nurse

Leigh joined East Port Veterinary Hospital in September 2010 after nursing in an Emergency Referral Centre on the Gold Coast for 2 ˝ years.

Leigh is pictured with her Rainbow Lorikeet “Hoover”. She has a keen interest in birds and reptiles.

Leigh completed her Certificate 4 in Veterinary Nursing through Scone TAFE in 2010 and is hoping to complete her Diploma within the next 2 years.


 
 

Alex Wilson

Veterinary Nurse

Alex joined the team at East Port Veterinary Hospital at the beginning of November 2010 after completing her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.

She grew up on a farm at Gloucester with a variety of animals. Her favourites being a pug called Roger, a ragdoll called Lucy and a tabby cat called Millie.

Alex has always been interested in competing in cattle shows and horse events and has two registered Australian Stock horses named Socks and Ruby.

In her spare time, she enjoys visiting the family farm at Gloucester, fishing, playing Oz tag and basketball.


 
  Annette Thomson
Receptionist

Annie’s career background had been in the hospitality industry before becoming a veterinary receptionist in March 2003. She had been a long term client of the practice watching the hospital grow from a staff of two to its present day staff of fourteen. She has had a lifelong love of animals which is reflected in her approach to our patients and their owners. Annie is the proud owner of  “Fatboy”, “Munch”  and “Pota”, all three finding her through the local RSPCA branch.


 
 

Amie Burgess

Veterinary Nurse

Amie joined the East Port Veterinary Hospital team in 2008 as an animal attendant after completing a course in Animal Studies and carrying out 12 months voluntary work.

Amie graduated from Tamworth TAFE in July 2010 gaining her Certificate 4 in Veterinary Nursing and is now a member of our nursing staff.

Pictured with her is her dog Bella. Amie also owns a Maltese named Macey.

Amie enjoys anything that involves the great outdoors, travelling, the beach, camping and spending time with family and friends.


 
 

Nikki Moulston

Groomer

After working in various lines of work, Nikki joined the East Port team in 2008 as a groomer. Nikki previously worked as a groomer in Port Macquarie for 5 years. Nikki also volunteered at the Koala hospital and worked locally at a veterinary hospital training to become a veterinary nurse. After working in a Sydney practice, Nikki completed an Advanced Certificate 4 in Veterinary Nursing. Nikki has 2 children; 3 including Occy the Labrador. Nikki’s family also consists of 2 friendly chickens named Edweana and Matilda, a Budgie called Sebastian and 2 fish named Snow White and Cedrick. Nikki’s interests include music, the gym, animals and a local group called HAARG. Nikki also volunteers her time promoting the Hastings Autistic Asperger’s Resource Group.


 
 

Belinda Hyde

Hospital Attendant

Growing up in the city but spending quality time on the family farm in Stroud, Belle’s love of animals grew. Being very passionate about their welfare, Belle started rescuing injured wildlife and keeping bee’s to make honey (shortlived!) and always remaining devoted to her own animals.

After completing her HSC, Belle enrolled in TAFE to complete Certificate II in Animal Studies. Belle says her greatest pleasure was attaining a full time position at East Port Veterinary Hospital and looks forward to completing her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing next year. Working her way up to become a zoologist is Belle’s ultimate goal.


 
 

Eddie East Port

Staff Manager

Eddie the black cat joined us in 2005 as a poor lost soul with advanced tick paralysis. He was treated successfully and made a full recovery. Through a combination of charming good looks and outstanding personality, he made his way into all of our hearts and become a life-long part of our team. Eddie now happily resides at the hospital. He is most often found lounging over the reception desk “helping” Annie and Kate.
