East Port Veterinary Hospital will be once again supporting the RSPCA Million Paws Walk at Oxley Oval. This is a great outing every year with many excited pooches helping to raise much needed funds.
We have donated a wonderful raffle prize worth over $450.00. Tickets are available at the hospital in the lead up to the event and will be available on the day. Tickets are $2.00 each.

Walk to fight animal cruelty! On Sunday 15th May the 23rd RSPCA Million Paws Walk will be taking place at Oxley Oval, Port Macquarie. Gates open at 8.45 a.m. with the official start of the walk by Lisa Intemann, Deputy Mayor, at 9.45 a.m. Local RSPCA Volunteer Branch President Jackianne Wright and Secretary Suzanne Stringer tell us more about the event and invite you to show your SUPpawt for the fundraiser.
Why is the Million Paws Walk an important fundraising initiative for the RSPCA?
The Million Paws Walk is an Australia-wide event which not only unites animal lovers in a common cause but also raises much needed funds to help fund all animal welfare issues, including the Inspectorate. Funds raised in our area are used exclusively to help heal and re-home abandoned animals in the Port Macquarie Hastings area.
Why does the RSPCA need our help?
Apart from a very small grant from Government which only partially funds the Inspectorate, RSPCA activities are entirely funded by generous donations and bequests from the public. In recent years, funds raised have help modernise part of our local Shelter as well as funding three major programs where the Volunteer Branch have paid for the desexing and microchipping of over 375 animals.
Our local Branch also helps fund programs for subsidised and last litter desexing, emergency veterinary treatment and medical or surgical treatment for RSPCA animals that have found their furever home through the local Shelter.
What resources are used to help thousands of neglected, injured and abused animals every year?
RSPCA’s 10 shelters throughout NSW help more than 38,000 injured, neglected, sick, surrendered and unwanted animals every year. In addition, we have 32 inspectors in NSW who investigate more than 12,000 complaints of cruelty or neglect every year.
Why is the Million Paws Walk is a fantastic day out for all pooches and their humans?
With the beautiful setting of Oxley Oval, we will also have the New Notes Band playing for festive flavour. In addition to the opportunity to mingle with like- minded animal lovers, we offer a sausage sizzle (for humans as well as dogs); Peak barista coffee; great cakes and slices will be available, as well as a home-made lemonade stand; games for the children and prizes for the pooches; dog grooming facilities; RSPCA merchandise and beautiful bespoke dog coats for sale; and stalls / information booths manned by Council Rangers and various local veterinary practices, including East Port Veterinary Hospital, Dr Paws and Greencross. Australian Pet Cremations will also be offering compassionate advice on your pet’s final journey.
We should emphasise MPW is for humans and DOGS ONLY, no other pets please. You don’t even need a dog to attend – we’ve had “invisible” dogs before! – so come along to support a great cause.
If you haven’t attended before, here are some guidelines – dogs must be on a leash; no “in-season” dogs; feed a light breakfast as some dogs may become over-excited; bring a poop bag!

What other events are held throughout the year to raise funds for the RSPCA?
The Port Macquarie Volunteer Branch raises funds by holding regular seasonal raffles (especially Easter and Christmas) and, of course, runs the Opportunity Shop at 15 Short Street. There is also Cup Cake Day held in August every year.
